Educational Technologies Leadership Group
Learning and Collaboration Spaces Working Group (WG)
Group Charges 2011-2012
This work group will address issues concerning learning spaces as well as general collaboration spaces (physical and virtual). Physical learning and collaboration spaces include classrooms, lecture halls, specialized teaching spaces, informal learning spaces and instructional computer labs. Each year as the group addresses relevant topics and contributes to the compendium of shared resources, some topics will receive higher priority, some will be added and some will be revisited. We propose the following as primary objectives and charges for this group for 2011-2012:

  • Collection, collation and assessment of classroom standards documents and websites from all campuses and discussion of common and exceptional elements. Topics will include:

    • Renewal and replacement: process and timelines
    • Enumerating the committees, service providers and other entities contributing to the campus standards
    • Adoption of new technologies; their physical and/or virtual impact
    • Construction parameters and drawings
    • Specification of classroom technology
    • Standards for non-general assignment classrooms such as department, program and service provider spaces.

  • Support and Service Challenges.

    • The general effects of budget constraints
    • Adoption of emerging technologies
    • Personnel issues including Help-Desk topics
    • Methods for assessing the quality of customer service in the classroom, laboratory and collaborative spaces

  • Regular sharing and collaboration on presentation, capture and collaboration technologies used at each campus.

  • Develop a database of techniques/policies used by all campuses with regard to teaching and learning technologies.

  • Technology Design and Implementation

    • Design process
    • ADA considerations
    • New technology selection
    • Physical and network security
    • Sustainability and efficiency
    • Phasing out old technologies

  • Procurement

    • Purchasing process
    • System Integrators
    • Vendors

  • Develop a list of contacts and listservs for the various services supported.

The tasks detailed above will lead to a higher level of collaboration and result in good ideas shared and implemented at our individual campus.
