Minutes:

  • Roll Call

  • Update on Captioning RFP  

    • Todd - RFP still needs further review. Jim Phillips working on definition of captioning service itself.  Dan Suchy will ask group what their spending was in past years.

      • Add to November Agenda for an update. Todd will assist with information gathering and report.

  • Learning Content and Analytics Update (George) - Link to PDF Draft

    • George worked on document that will be structured with a three step process.. Add cost document from original documents. Working on plan of action that address issues identified. Option to combine weight with other campuses to gain traction.

    • Please review and share broadly at your campuses. We need to have edits done within two weeks and feedback from each campus (if any) by the November meeting.

    • A Plan for Adapting to the New Digital Education Ecosystem - Editing Doc

  • Cloud Computing Working Group/ETLG Collaboration (Jenn/Israel)

    • Gabe Youtsey is recommending to the ITLC the restarting of the cloud services working group. There are many "freemium" apps that never go through procurement and thus are not being reviewed. The proposal is for a new Cloud Services Working Group "2.0".

    • This working group could maintain a UC-wide resource website to detail, curate, and maintain list of "freemium" services (similar to UCI: http://sites.uci.edu/cloud/). 

      • To-Do: Notify Jim Davis. ETLG has been collaborating and will have a recommendation soon for review, curating, and maintaining resource website with proper governance. 

  • Update on Special Projects Coordinator Next Steps (Israel)

    • Jeff Henry started a scope and role document for an ETLG project manager/support.

    • Would like the ETLG to review and help develop the job description.

      • To-Do:  Israel to route around Google Doc for editing.

    • Questions yet to be determined:  Funding, location, and percentage of time for new position.

    • We need guidance from ITLC and what our options are for getting support. ITLC has face-face meeting Oct 22-23.

      • To-Do: Ask Jim Davis to get this on ITLC October Meeting Agenda.

  • Learning Analytics Conference Update and Information - (Jenn)

    • Berkeley and UCOP sponsoring a conference in support of Learning Analytics.

    • Planning Document

    • Each campus Provost or VPUE would have received a Save-the-Date invitation for this.

    • Jenn Stringer and Jim Davis are on program committee.

    • There will be some pre-work by campuses which consist of surveys to inform the conversation.

  • System-wide technology innovation incubation (Tom A.)

    • Paul Friedman talked about Entangled Ventures at last ETLG in July.

    • Opportunity for support for innovative edtech startups. ETLG will be asked to come up with list of innovative edtech proposals, 6-10 proposals/ideas.

    • Tom will develop a process and will share with ETLG. Possible mini-meeting in January at the Learning Analytics Conference in Berkeley.
