Happy New Year UC Trust Workgroup!  I hope you all had an enjoyable holiday season.

The New Year brings some good news for UC wide identity management and the UC Trust workgroup.

First, I'm excited to share the news if you have not yet heard that Eric Goodman has accepted the position of Identity and Access Management Lead for Shared Technology Services at UC Office of the President.  We are lucky that while Eric moves on to the next phase of his career, we will continue to reap the benefits of his expertise, goodwill, and leadership.  Eric brings nearly 23 years of UC experience to his new position. He will be responsible for planning and architecture of identity and access management to meet system-wide goals and objectives, starting with the UCPath project.

Second, I'm thrilled to introduce Tanya Egloff from UCOP who will be joining the UC Trust workgroup to provide administrative support.  This will go a long way to getting our meetings back on track after the hiatus from last fall. Welcome Tanya!  You will hear from her shortly regarding timing for our next meeting.  Our past standing time of Thursdays from 3-4pm no longer works for me. I am hoping we can move the meetings up to 2-3pm the third Thursday of the month.  Can you let Tanya know if that will *not* work for you (you can mail her directly to the address in the cc line)?  If that time doesn't work, Tanya will take the tried and true Doodle Poll approach.

Finally, the UC IT Architecture Group has been working hard to redefine itself and its relationship to ITLC.  As you may recall, we discussed in the past incorporating the UC Trust workgroup as a subgroup of the ITAG.  These organizational changes are moving forward and we will need to start planning a more formal leadership rotation and structure for UC Trust as well.

This and many other topics will be on the agenda for our next call.  I asked Tanya to book 1 1/2 hours for our January meeting since we have a lot to catch up on.  Some preliminary items for agenda:

  1. UC Trust leadership
  2. How would UC Trust like to leverage Eric's new position (I'm thinking particularly in light of some of the concerns that came up at the end of the year about system-wide initiatives with IAM implications that don't seem to get the proper vetting at the moment like the Climate Survey and the new compliance issues related to LMS access)
  3. InCommon Silver - we are now well out of compliance with UC Trust audit requirements.  Where are we all on our plans to migrate to InCommon Silver. What about InCommon Bronze?  InCommon is encouraging us all to officially certify at that level at a minimum.
  4. SP On-boarding - We set up a new process that helps.  Are we ready to move on to our next goal, which was pre-approved attribute release for certain types of SPs?
  5. UC Path - Many of us are already on weekly calls for this project.  Any updates we need to share with the UC Trust Workgroup?

I very much look forward to talking with you all again soon. If you have additional agenda items to suggest, send them my way!

- Dedra
