Incommon Silver Integration

Dedra clarifies that we are not looking for an implementation date; at this point, we are trying to set a deadline to come up with a plan to let our CIO's know how much money and time it will take each campus to complete the Incommon Silver certification. Obviously, these factors will vary between the different campuses. A September deadline to complete the plan itself is proposed; most campuses seem to think that this is a reasonable amount of time and can be accomplished with their current resources.

It doesn't seem like most campuses have discussed with their CIO's yet regarding a plan for Incommon Silver.

A point was brought up that there is still some confusion on exactly what the plan for Incommon Silver certification would entail, and how detailed it would have to be.

Also, Dedra mentions that the cost and time for the certification of Incommon Silver would be much less if we only certify for a narrow amount of users like other campuses outside of the UC system have done, but then we cannot use Incommon Silver to replace UC Trust Basic.

We are looking at Incommon Silver for all staff, to be used for AYSO, Connexxus, and anything else that currently needs UC Trust Basic.

To encourage collaboration of work and materials, child pages will be created in the UC Trust wiki for each of the 8 different functional areas.

June 30th ITLC meeting

David and Dedra are scheduled to go back and meet with the ITLC on June 30th. One topic they will discuss is the different components of our identity access management systems, and looking at areas that need to be updated. There is no single solution that will fill all our needs; it will have to be a framework whichever way we go. Several campuses currently have Sun Identity Manager and are looking at other options.

The cost and time to deliver is high for commercial products, so we must make it clear that a commercial solution doesn't mean you can just plug it in and have it work no matter how munch money you spend.

Dedra will send out the initial components of the framework to illustrate where pieces are missing for both commercial and open source solutions; none of them have everything we need. This will be sent out to the group before taking it to the ITLC.

User provisioning

A detailed design document is forthcoming.

HR/Payroll system

The new system could be an opportunity to standardatize procedures when hiring new employees. The decision for the vendor should be decided before the next ITLC meeting.
